Sidetraxx Records and James Kirchstein bring you this great classic piece of the golden Midwest musical history.
Special thanks to Cuca Records for maintaining top quality master tapes of this 1972 recording.
Sidetraxx Records and James Kirchstein
has decided to bring you this great classic
piece of the golden Midwest History, 1972.
James Kirchstein produced LP's and singles from 1959 until the early 1970s. While the company's bread and butter came from its vast catalog of polka and ethnic LP's, Cuca also recorded pop, rock 'n' roll, rhythm & blues, folk, and traditional jazz, with an output of over 1000 45-rpm singles. Because most of the artists were from Wisconsin or adjacent states, the Cuca recordings present a concentrated view of the area's ethnic and popular music. Read more about  Cuca records here .
Johnnie Gee has promoted his career for over 30 years and still has a strong presence among his fans. At age nine, Johnnie recorded his first single with Step By Step; by age 13 he was already earning his own living as an entertainer. After 37 years, Platinum Records, Brunswick Records, Cuca Records and Sidetraxx Records have brought back the classic early sounds of Step By Step and Johnnie Gee.

'09/12/2006 More discovered Songs from Step By Step'
This classic 45 on CD, will be avaiable on 09/15/2006
After retrieving the original Cuca masters for the Step By Step recordings, we have continued to explore the archives. We have now obtained more of the golden songs of Johnnie Gee, and they will soon be available to the world.

"My Love" and "Salt 'N' Pepper" were two additional songs recorded for Cuca in 1972. The quality of these masters is preserved so well that you can hear everything including the studio conversation. This is truly history - you can almost feel yourself there in the same room as you listen to these classic recordings.

Johnnie Gee recalls, "I can remember the jam session the band had with other rockers and studio musicians that were there that day. Our band had that kind of funky sound that moved the room, and my brother, Dewitt Gee, was one of the funkiest bass players around. Dewitt went on to play with Parlament/Funkadelic for 16 years.

For Sidetraxx Distributing, this find is the treasure of a lifetime, and we would like to share it with the world. This classic soul timepiece will be available September 15th -order yours now!

Gary Myers for Music
At age 9, Gary began playing the drums his brother had stored in the basement. His best friend was taking clarinet lessons, and the two did their imitations of Benny Goodman and Gene Krupa. After a family move, Gary completed high school in Bradenton, Florida and joined his first band immediately after graduating in 1960.

After working in another band with guitarist Dickie Betts (who went to great success with the Allman Brothers), Gary went on the road in the Midwest, and eventually landed in Southern California.

Gary played full time for over 20 years, backing many name artists and appearing in Las Vegas, Reno, Lake Tahoe and other parts of the USA. He played on a movie soundtrack LP that charted in 1967 and recorded a commercial in New York in 1968.
In 1982, Gary left the club scene to play private parties, performing a wide variety of music all over the greater Los Angeles / Orange County area.

In July 2003, Gary Myers was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Certificate from RockCountryHall at the Midwest Reunion Show in Medina, Minnesota. To visit Gary Myers web page click here.

History of Cuca Records
History of Cuca Records
Cuca Records was founded by James Kirchstein in 1959 and actively produced LP recordings until the early 1970s. During this period Cuca recorded and released primarily polka and ethnic music on its LPs but also issued other musical styles including pop, rhythm and blues, folk, and traditional jazz. At the same time, Cuca was actively engaged in recording rock and other popular groups for release on the ubiquitous 45 rpm record. Most musicians recorded by Cuca were from Wisconsin or adjacent states. Consequently, the Cuca recordings represent a concentrated view of Wisconsin's ethnic and popular music in this period.
